What We Know So Far
The 3D printing community is abuzz with discussions about the Voron 24, also known as the Phoenix. Recently announced at SMRFF, this upcoming model from Voron is touted to be a larger format printer, featuring a substantial 24-inch squared bed. While the names "Voron 24" and "Phoenix" are currently circulating within the community, it's important to note that these are not yet officially confirmed by Voron, and we are eagerly awaiting more detailed information from the company itself.
A unique aspect of the Voron 24 is its segmented bed design. This printer boasts four individual bed heaters, which are ingeniously engineered to cycle during the heating process. This means that not all heaters operate simultaneously, a thoughtful design choice to prevent the potential of tripping electrical breakers due to excessive power draw.
Additionally, the Voron 24 is reported to be an IDEX (Independent Dual Extruder) printer, a feature that allows for more complex and versatile printing capabilities. This is almost a necessity for a printer this large, taking advantage of that build volume by being able to print in a mirror/clone mode where both toolheads are printing the same part at the same time.
Interestingly, this is not the first time a printer with a 24-inch build volume has been associated with Voron. Back in 2017, one of the founders of Voron Design built a one-off printer, referred to as the V24. This earlier model shares the same build volume as the newly announced Voron 24 so you could safely assume that this was the original starting point for the new design. It doesn’t include a lot of the DIY-friendly off-the-shelf parts that the other Voron printers share but that is to be expected for a large-format printer.
Here’s what we know so far:
IDEX printer
600 x 600 x <600 build volume
Nema 23 motors
Bed powered by 4 independent heaters
Canbus
Upgraded TAP
Upgraded CW2 (CW2r2)
Dual filament runout sensors

And here’s the first overview of the new Phoenix by Nero 3D:
The “Phoenix” is rumoured to be set for release in early 2024 so if you are looking to start building one, you’ll have to wait. I’m sure there are many beta-testers out there who are putting the machines through a tough workout before the design, BOM, build guide, and commissioning guide will make it to the hands of the user.
