Welcome to our "Product of the Week" series, where we uncover the latest and most innovative 3D printing solutions that make your 3D printer perform better and make your printing experience even easier.

This week we're excited to showcase a product for the Voron community, a CNC Voron Tap kit from Chaoticlab.

What is Voron Tap?

The Voron Tap is a nozzle-based z-probe designed for Voron V2 and Trident 3D printers. It functions by moving the entire toolhead to trigger an optical switch, offering extreme precision of up to 0.4μm (0.0004mm) and high-temperature reliability ranging from 70C to 100C. The Voron Tap enables users to easily change build surfaces while ensuring durability and accuracy, making it a valuable addition to the 3D printing experience.

Benefits - Printed Tap vs CNC Tap

The 3 main advantages of using a metal Tap over the printed version are weight savings, rigidity, and durability.

It may be surprising to you but when replacing printed parts on your printer with metal versions, you’ll find that the metal versions will almost always weigh less. This is due to the fact that aluminum is very strong and the parts don’t need thick walls to be functional like the printed ones. This CNC Tap is the perfect example, it’s a slimmed-down version of the original Tap. All that plastic bulkiness isn’t needed. (Members of the Voron Facebook group are reporting weight savings of 35 grams).

Being made of CNC’d aluminum results in a super solid and rigid piece which your 3D printer will only benefit from. The stronger your printer is, the faster it will be able to print with higher quality.

The durability of an aluminum part should be a no-brainer compared to the plastic version. Aluminum components are stronger, making them better suited to withstand the wear and tear of constant use. They have a higher heat resistance which allows them to maintain their structural integrity even when exposed to high temperatures in an enclosed 3D printer.

Added bonus: aluminum parts look awesome!
