The magnetic linear motor and closed-loop control system are the main pieces of unique tech on the Magneto X. It is missing the majority of advanced features that the others have adopted and will eventually, in my opinion, become commonplace. This was most likely a decision to keep costs down since the Magneto X runs on open-source Klipper firmware which is an easy and cheap path for manufacturers who aren’t looking to put energy into developing proprietary firmware and software.

Who is the Magneto X for?

The Magneto X seems to be targeted at the pro-consumer market of 3D printing. It comes with the majority of high-end features that you would expect from a printer in this price range but yet doesn’t appear to be the ‘hands-off’ style of printer like the X1 and K1. This is apparent with its Klipper firmware and lack of ‘self-calibrating’ type of features that are becoming standardized.

This is more of a tinkerers 3D printer, more specifically, a tinkerer who likes to stay on the cutting edge of tech.

I can see the magnetic motion and closed-loop control system being adopted by all of the 3D heavy-hitter printer manufacturers at some point….if the Magneto X proves to be reliable. We’ll have to wait and see if these features turn out to be reliable or just a novelty in the timeline of consumer 3D printing.

I’m excited to see what users do with this printer and see what modifications and crazy speeds they’ll be able to hit.
